Episode 165 - Planet of the Apes (2001)

In this week's episode, the gang enters the back half of their Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza with Tim Burton's depressingly terrible Planet of the Apes! Why not hire anybody besides Mark Wahlberg? Why are we still sending chimps into space in 2029? And what kind of a trampoline budget were they working with here? PLUS: Twilight Zone's greatest "secret robot" scenarios.

Planet of the Apes stars Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, Estella Warren, Kris Kristofferson and Charlton Heston; directed by Tim Burton.

I think the ape version of Nickelback would be "Silverback".

I'm going to disagree COMPLETELY about the Pain and Gain recommendation at the end and say that anyone curious shouldn't bother. That had to be one of the most unpleasant and devoid-of-class movies I'd seen all year. Something about the grime and glare and roughness really pissed me off and it suffers from a huge problem of people talking AT each other instead of having dialog WITH each other.

Apes n Roses would have been Thade's favorite band.

I'm not done listening yet, but no Simpson's Planet of the Apes ("The planet or the movie?") references yet?

I'm glad you aknowledged the great score by Elfman. I've always thought that it was among his coolest.

The Mark Wahlberg Impression/Tangents were so great. I hope WHM reviews another movie with Marky Mark...

The Twilight Zone episode with the robot baseball player was "The Mighty Casey".

Yeah the thunderstorm most definitely is not getting picked up at all, so you guys kinda sound like you're all reacting to a shared delusion that we are not a party to.

Also, my favorite voice you guys do is that trampoline guy. Is that supposed to be the blue-collar cameraman from 'The Simpsons,' or is it Charles Bronson, or both? Either way, it's a keeper.

I could hear the delusion occasionally.

The more ripped Wahlberg is always good to make fun of. I love the SNL bits, too. I'm sick of the family just from the commercials for their reality show, not that I'll ever watch it. I can't get my head around why anyone would think that's a good idea. But, then again, I could say that about most TV.
