Episode 63 - Jaws: The Revenge

In this week's episode, the gang thinks it's safe to go back in the water with Lorraine Gary and Michael Caine in the 1987 suck-fest sequel, Jaws: The Revenge! How on Earth does this shark find the Brody family? How bad is Mario Van Peebles' accent here? And how far is too far when a sequel pilfers from the original?

Jaws: The Revenge stars Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles and Michael Caine; directed by Joseph Sargent.

Music - Swim - Surfer Blood

I came into this expecting delightfully horrible Michael Caine and Mario Van Peebles impressions and was not disappointed (even when Mario briefly morphed into Tim Curry's character from Congo?). But I have to say, the surprise breakout for me was the voice of the shark.

Okay, I'm going to spoil the hell out of Jaws the novel in hopes of sparing anyone the hell of reading a horrible, terrible book.

Serious spoilers ahoy!

First, I must mention that the novel was a national sensation. I mean a Harry Potter, Twilight, Fifty Shades level smash hit.

Yes, in the book, Hooper is banging Ellen Brody. Chief Brody finds out, and is oddly kind of okay with it.

During the final battle, Hooper is clamped in the shark's jaws, about to be taken to his watery grave. Brody tries to shoot the shark, misses, and accidentally blows Hooper's head of.

Or was it an accident? As the shark is bearing down to finish him off, Brody finds time to debate that question in his mind.

Then, just as the shark is about to finish him off... it dies.

Yep, it just dies. The amount of abuse it had taken to this point catches up with it and it just dies. The end.

If you ever see the book in a store, read the first five pages. They are fantastic. The rest of the book is a bucket of chum.
